Default Lighting my Pond! - 17-04-2008, 04:03 PM

Hey!!

Wasn't sure where to put this thread, ponds or lighting, so here it is in lighting!!

Going forward, i will soon have crystal clear water in my pond this made me think about lighting it so i can appriciate it on those summery nights in my garden!!

Im not sure how i should go about it though, do i shine down onto the pond but this might cause glare, do i get pond lights set them inside the pond but this might not be visable from my decking, or do i just put a few spot lights in my rockery just to highlight my pond is there??
Not really a massive dilemma but i would appriciate anybody's thoughts!!

Hello Danny Boy , well its not such a dilema in my opnion as a landscape & lighting dare i call myself expert .. I personally would not light inside the pool for lots of reasons ie . Extra algae growth , burns to the fish , the general maintenance of the lights under water . The lights will constantly need checking for leaks , constantly need to be cleaned for algae growth, and of course these lights will encourage the algae growth. You should go for spot lights externally around your rockery 4 to 6 should do . Most lights come with a clear lense and are between 10 and 20 watts output . I see that you are worried about glare on the water .This can be avoided by defusing the lense on each light . You can buy a spray to do this from most diy stores Defused light creates a natural shimmer on the water rather than a glare which will make your pool & surrounding rockery look more natural . L.E.D are great and virtually maintenance free with most bulbs giving up to 50,000 hours life span However they do not give a wide enough beam and a weak compared to 20 watt low voltage. Hope this helps any questions mail me back
