Default Replanting digitalis - foxglove ? - 03-07-2008, 12:37 PM

Having planted only 6 giant foxglove (digitalis) 2 years ago in the back garden as hoped for this year they have provided a magnificent display but have multiplied & virtually taken over a 20 feet by 6 feet section of border & aren't leaving sufficient room for rose bushes & smaler perennials let alone annuals.Flowering is just about finishing now & I'd like to know when the best time is to remove & replant them as I've decided to transfer some to the front garden as I understand that they don't mind light shade? Comparitively new to managing a large-ish garden, started only 3 years ago! Thank you in advance for advice.

I would say you can move them whenever you want to, but perhaps wait until we have some cooler weather towards the end of the year for blooms next year. Let this year's flowerstalks set seed, and then cut them down and shake them over where you want the next set to be. Hope that helps.
