Planted new stella cherry in feb/march. No fruit or blossoms but leaves are turning reddish colour and then brown and dying. Problem is spreading rapidly to many leaves. I feed and water regularly. Worried tree will die if problem not solved. Can anyone suggest a solution. Thanks
You say it's well-waterd, is the water getting right down to the roots? Or could you be over-watering it? I've also found some info for you:
To check if it is dead, scratch a little of the bark away from one of the branches using your thumbnail. If the cells are green and moist then the tree is still alive but if they are brown and dry then that part is dead. If you do find that the tested area is dead keep working back along the branch towards the trunk as you may discover that all the branch is not dead. If this is the case prune out all the dead portion. Try the scratch test on the trunk of the tree as well to check if this is alive. You could try to encourage it to leaf up by an application of rose fertiliser to the root area.
If it was only bought this year I would consider contacting wherever you bought it from.
